Why Use a Printable Chore Chart?

A printable chore chart is one of my favorite ways to encourage kids to help around the house.

Instead of constantly reminding them of every little task, they can easily see what needs to be done and enjoy checking off each chore as they complete it.

Chore charts can also help children:

  • build responsibility
  • create healthy routines
  • develop independence
  • learn consistency
  • feel proud of their accomplishments

I especially love adding a small reward at the end of the week. It doesn’t have to be anything big—even choosing Friday’s movie or picking dessert can be wonderful motivation.

Tips for Using Your Chore Chart

Here are a few ideas that have worked well:

  • Keep the chart somewhere visible, like the fridge.
  • Start with just a few age-appropriate chores.
  • Celebrate progress instead of perfection.
  • Let your child help choose a reward.
  • Praise consistency rather than only completed chores.

Small daily habits often lead to big lifelong skills.

Chore Ideas by Age

If you’re not sure what chores to include, here are a few ideas:

Ages 3–5

  • Put toys away
  • Make the bed
  • Put clothes in the laundry basket

Ages 6–9

  • Empty the dishwasher
  • Water plants
  • Fold towels

Ages 10+
