How to track habits – in a nutshell
So, how to use a habit tracker? And what kind of tracker?
There are a few ways that you can track habits. The method you use will largely depend on how many habits you want to follow, how visual you are, and how detailed you want the tracking to be.
1. Track your habits in a notebook or planner
This is a very simple way to track your habits, especially if you’re just starting out. All you need to do is create a list of the habits that you want to track and then check them off each day as you complete them.
2. Use printable habit trackers
If you’re not into bullet journaling and still want a tracker that is aesthetically pleasing and cute, a printable habit tracker is a great option (and my favorite way to track habits).
3. Use a habit tracker app
If you’re not into habit tracking on paper, use a habit tracker app. There are several apps to track your habits: such as Habitica, Habitify, Loop, and Beeminder. These apps allow you to track more than just one habit and often come with other features, such as goal setting and tracking your
4. Use a spreadsheet
This is a more detailed way to track your habits. It’s excellent if you want to track statistics, such as how often you’ve completed a habit in a certain time or your average streak length.
Whichever method you choose, make sure that it’s something that you’ll be able to stick with. Habit tracking can be a great way to help you achieve your goals, but only if you do it regularly and keep up with it.
Common daily habit ideas to track in your habit tracker
Here are a few common daily habit ideas to track:
- Wake up early
- Exercise
- Make your bed
- Drink water
- Take a break from screens
- Read
- Spend time with family or friends
- Go to bed on time
- Meditate or do something relaxing
- Learn something new

Benefits of habit tracking
Here are a few things a habit tracking can do for you:
1) Helps stay on track
When you’re tracking your habits, you’re less likely to break them because you’ll record how often you’ve succeeded (or failed). And once you’re on a winning streak some days in a row, you start to avoid breaking that chain. This can be especially helpful when it comes to building new habits.
2) Helps you see your progress
Habit tracking can also help you see your
Tip #3: Combine your habit tracker with these cute vision board templates.
3) Helps you identify patterns
Another benefit of habit tracking is that it can help you identify patterns in your behavior. For example, you might notice that you’re more likely to skip your workout if you don’t do it first thing in the morning. Or you might realize that you tend to snack more when you’re stressed.
4) Keeps you accountable
When you track your habits, you’re essentially holding yourself accountable. This can be a great way to stay on track and achieve your goals.
5) Helps you develop better habits
Ultimately, habit tracking can help you develop better habits. When you’re aware of your bad habits, you can work on replacing them with good ones.

Use 21/90 rule to make habits stick
Have you tried to implement good habits for 21 days straight but then returned to your old ways? Maybe the 21/90 rule will work better for you.
When it comes to habit-forming, The 21/90 rule states that it takes 21 days to make a habit and 90 days to make it a permanent lifestyle change.
This means you need to do something consistently for 21 days until it becomes a habit. And once it’s become a habit, you need to keep up the good work for up to 90 days until the change is permanent and has become part of your lifestyle.
According to a study by Philippa Lally and her research team from University College London, it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days to form a new habit- which averages out to about 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic.
Habit formation is a gradual process that takes time. The 21/90 rule is actually more of a guideline than an absolute rule.
So if you try something for a few weeks and you’re making
