How to make reusable Yahtzee score sheets
Print a few of these and laminate them to make a reusable Yahtzee score sheet.
I recommend printing them as letter-size or two on one sheet.
The dry-erase markers usually have a bigger tip, so this will make filling out the points easier.
What is a Yahtzee score card?
The Yahtzee score card is a sheet divided into 13 different sections, with each section devoted to one of the 13 rounds of play in a game.
There are upper and lower score totals and columns to record scores.
You will mark your score total for each round at the bottom of the appropriate column.
A Yahtzee score card is divided into the Upper Section and the Lower Section.
The Upper Section is where the player can score points for every number from one to six that they roll. For example, if a player rolls three fours, they will receive 12 points in the Upper Section.
The Lower Section of the Yahtzee score card consists of nine categories. Players can choose which to use each turn, but each category can only be used once.
These categories are as follows: Three-of-a-kind, Four-of-a-kind, Full House, Small Straight, Large Straight, Yahtzee, Chance, and Bonus Yahtzee.
Players must fill out their score card with the correct numbers to keep track of the scores during the game. The person with the highest score at the end of 13 rounds is the winner.
How to play the Yahtzee game in 3 simple steps
To play Yahtzee, you only need five dice and a score card.
- Roll the five dice.
- The player can then keep some or all of the dice and re-roll the remaining dice up to two times.
- The player must then place their score in either the Upper Section or Lower Section on the Yahtzee scorecard, depending on what combination they rolled.
The object of Yahtzee is to roll five dice and score points (to get a high score). After each roll, the player must decide which combination (i.e., a straight, full house, etc.) to use for their score. Once the player has decided, they mark their choice on the scorecard with a checkmark in the appropriate box.
How to fill in the upper and lower section
Here’s how to fill in a Yahtzee scorecard’s upper and lower sections.
Upper section:
The Upper Section includes numbers from 1-6, and players score points based on the number of dice that match each given number.
For example, if a player rolls five sixes, they would score 30 points in the 6-box. Or if the player rolls three fives, they would score 15.
The total sum of all boxes in the Upper Section is added at the end of the game for an additional bonus of 35 points.
Lower section
The Lower Section consists of seven categories with specific rules for each.
The lower section categories are:
- 3-of-a-kind,
- 4-of-a-kind,
- Full House,
- Small Straight (four sequential dice values),
- Large Straight (five sequential dice
values ), - Yahtzee
- and Chance.
3-of-a-kind
In the 3-of-a-kind box, the player scores the sum of all five dice if three or more dice have the same value.
4-of-a-kind
In 4-of-a-kind, if four or more dice have the same value, the player scores the sum of all five dice.
Full House
For a Full House, three of one number and two of another, the player scores 25 points.
Small Straight (four sequential dice values )
To score in the Small Straight box, any four sequential dice
Large Straight (five sequential dice values )
If you get a Large Straight, five sequential dice
Yahtzee
Did you get the lucky Yahtzee roll? Super!
A Yahtzee is five of the same number, which scores 50 points (or a 100-point Yahtzee bonus if it’s a player’s second Yahtzee).
Chance
The Chance box is for any combination where the player totals all five dice for their score.
At the end of each game, the player’s total is tallied in the bottom right corner of the scorecard.
The winner is determined by who has the highest score.
Yahtzee game variants
