Why use the Wheel of Life to assess your life

Are you familiar with the great self-assesment tool called the Wheel of Life?

The Wheel of Life is a great self-development and life coaching tool to assess your life at any given time. It’s visual and gives you a quick view of your current life situation and let’s you see instantly the areas in your life that are imbalance.

We sometimes think we know what is causing us to feel out of balance. And we might even brush under the carpet the difficult subjects we don’t want to deal with.

Use the Wheel of Life -tool to asses your current situation. Congratulate yourself in which parts of your life you’re doing well and identify the areas that need your attention.

Picture quickly how balanced your life is with the help of the Wheel of Life.

How to use the Wheel of Life

There are numerous different areas you can have in the Wheel of Life.

I’ve chosen 16 different areas in two different templates that cover most of people’s lives. If some category  is not relevant to you, you can cross the area over and write another area that suits you better.

Step-by-step instructions on how to use the Wheel of Life

Here are the instructions how to use the Wheel of Life:

1. Print out the Wheel of Life #1 and #2

Download the wheel of life #1 & #2 here:

2. Go through the questions below and assess each area with a scale from 1-10.

  • Numbers 1-3 means you are suffering somehow in that area and would need to make a change to feel better
  • Numbers 4-6 means you are surviving and making the best out of the situation
  • Numbers 7-10 means you are thriving – everything is already going well or great and with little changes might go even better

3. Color each sector according to it’s number and your feelings towards the area of your life.

Note. There’s no right or wrong answers. This tool is about your feelings and you never have to show these templates to anyone, so  this is the perfect change to be completely honest to yourself about your life.

The change starts and ends with us, so this is not a blaming game. When we realize that we can only change ourselves not others and we are responsible of the things happening in our lives we start to feel empowered. And when that happens nothing will stop you and the sky’s your limit.

All of the areas don’t need to be a 9 or a 10, but it would be good to have them all be in the same levels, so you could feel balanced in your life.

Choose the areas that need your attention. What are the smallest little steps you could take to get the number to be a bit higher?

You can write key words about where you are now to these templates, and what are the things you could do to go from suffering to surviving or from surviving to thriving.

Remember again that you can only change yourself not others.

So try to think of each change you’d like to have in your life that they start from you.

What can you do to make that area better for you? How could you think differently about things? Could you maybe ask help from someone? Could you have a different mindset? What would be the smallest possible step you could take to make things a bit better in the chosen category?
