But of all times tables, the 9 times table has the most fun pattern to memorize it. This is how our math teacher helped us learn it!
Super easy way to solve 9 times table
The tens digit increases by one, and the units digit decreases by one.
Here’s an image of the digits:
So just increase the tens digit and decrease the first digit, and you’ll get all the answers for 9 times table (up to times 10).
Count with 10 fingers
Hold both hands out, fingers pointed. Put down the finger that has the number you are multiplying by 9 – start counting your fingers from the left.
Example: If you’d need to count 3 x 9, put the third finger from left down, and you’ll have the answer: 2 fingers are on the left side and 7 fingers on the right. 3 x 9 = 27.
Example 2: 4 x 9
Hold the fourth finger from the left down. 3 fingers are on the left and 6 on the right. The correct answer is 36.
Now it’s your turn. It really works!
Fun fact: The digits of multiples of 9 (up to 9×10) always add up to 9.
3 x 9 = 27. 2+7 = 9
7 x 9 = 63. 6 + 3 = 9
And you can notice that this works for any large number divided by 9.
Let’s take a number 549. 5+4+9 = 18. 1+8 = 9.
Or 14 877. 1+4+8+7+7 = 27. 2+7 =9.
